Bio:
Dr. John A. Seitz is a board-certified anesthesiologist and medical expert witness based in New York City, with nearly two decades of active clinical practice and an established record of providing authoritative expert testimony in complex anesthesiology litigation. Operating through his Manhattan-based practice, Seitz Anesthesia, Dr. Seitz offers case review, consultation, deposition preparation, and trial testimony to legal teams across the country.
Dr. Seitz earned his undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering with a minor in Psychology at the University of Pennsylvania, one of the nation’s premier Ivy League institutions, before completing his MD at Tulane University School of Medicine, where he trained at the Charity Hospital in New Orleans. He completed his anesthesiology residency at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City, one of the country’s most respected and competitive training programs, before joining the attending staff at the world-renowned Lenox Hill Hospital on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, where he practiced for over fifteen years.
That clinical foundation spans an exceptionally wide range of anesthesiology subspecialties. Dr. Seitz has extensive hands-on experience in obstetric and epidural anesthesia, spinal anesthesia, regional and peripheral nerve block anesthesia, general anesthesia, office-based anesthesia, airway management and intubation, preoperative evaluation, postoperative care, and anesthesia monitoring and equipment. He has provided anesthesia care across surgical disciplines, including ENT, bariatric, gynecologic, endoscopic, orthopedic, and plastic surgery, on both inpatient and outpatient bases. This clinical breadth allows him to speak with confidence and authority across a wide spectrum of anesthesia-related claims.
What distinguishes Dr. Seitz as an expert witness is the analytical precision he brings to medical record review. His undergraduate training in chemical engineering instilled a structured, systematic approach to problem-solving that most clinicians never develop. Applied to complex medical records, this framework allows Dr. Seitz to identify pertinent omissions, documentation gaps, and deviations from the standard of care with a level of thoroughness that consistently distinguishes him from other experts retained on the same cases. Attorneys frequently report that Dr. Seitz identifies critical details that prior reviewers failed to surface and that his findings materially change the direction of a case.
In addition to his analytical rigor, Dr. Seitz is a skilled and confident communicator. He translates highly technical anesthesiology standards into clear, precise language accessible to judges, juries, and attorneys without sacrificing clinical accuracy. He has been deposed and testified across both plaintiff and defense matters and is known for his composure, credibility, and persuasive clarity under cross-examination.
His career has also included humanitarian anesthesia relief in India, Vietnam, and Haiti following the 2010 earthquake, further evidence of his adaptability and performance under pressure in the most demanding conditions imaginable.
Dr. Seitz is board-certified by the American Board of Anesthesiologists and holds memberships in the American Society of Anesthesiologists and the New York State Society of Anesthesiologists. He is available for nationwide engagement on cases involving anesthesia
