Dr. Alexandra Lajoux

Founding Principal Capital Expert Services

Alexandra (Alex) Reed Lajoux, Ph.D., M.B.A., is the founding principal of Capital Expert Services, LLC,  and serves as an advisor to the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD). Recently named to the NACD Directorship 100,  she is regarded as a trusted source of useful insights and introductions in the field of corporate governance, M&A, and the professional disciplines that underlie these two domains. Dr. Lajoux, who is a Series Editor for De Gruyter Publishing, has contributed to studies on a variety of business topics, including human capital, economic recovery,  insurance fintech, intellectual property, and business as a complex adaptive system.

Dr. Lajoux served as editor-in-chief of NACD’s Director’s Monthly for more than 15 years and helped NACD develop the world’s largest library of director-centric thought leadership publications. In addition, Dr. Lajoux has conceptualized and authored/coauthored all nine titles in the McGraw-Hill Art of M&A series (1989-2024), as well as books on valuation with Robert A. G. Monks (Wiley, 2010); on money with Peet van Biljon (De Gruyter 2020), and on municipal sustainability (De Gruyter 2021). Her articles have appeared in Financier Worldwide, Risk & Compliance, and Capital Insights, and her works are cited in more than 950 academic studies. She holds a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from Princeton University, an M.B.A. from Loyola University Maryland, and a B.A. from Bennington College. She is fluent in English and French and has conversational competence in German and Spanish.

Influential Board Member & Industry Contributor

Dr. Lajoux serves as corporate secretary on the board of Voices for Children of Florida, Inc. (formerly the Guardian ad Litem Foundation of Florida’s First Coast) as well as the advisory boards of Campaigns & Elections magazine and the Caux Round Table for Moral Capitalism, and is an emeritus member of the Board of M&A Standards. In 2020, she ran for local public office in her city, Fernandina Beach, Florida. She is an associate member of the American Bar Association and a past member of the Global Forum for Governance, Risk, and Performance at ACCA; IEEE; and the Recording Academy. She founded a record label called  American Classic Recordings. A Life Member and past trustee of the Association of Princeton Graduate Alumni, she has served on her homeowners association board (as vice president), and as an appointed member of her city’s Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee.

Community Service

At Loyola University (Maryland) she supports the Jenkins Society with the Bernard and Alexandra Lajoux Scholarship. She holds a competent communicator certificate from Toastmasters International and has a certificate for audio engineering. She is a member of Federated Republican Women of Nassau and the Amelia Island Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, recently chairing the chapter’s Good Citizen Committee. Dr. Lajoux has been a confirmation catechist for 15 years (currently at St. Michael Catholic Church). She has been a volunteer respite care provider for children in foster care and a mentor to teens in foster care. Currently she is a volunteer Guardian ad Litem (court appointed special advocate) for children in Nassau County, Florida.
